Why it matters
The power upgrade supports the orbiting research station used by NASA and its international partners.
NASA reported that astronaut Anil Menon and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk began a spacewalk outside the International Space Station on Thursday morning.
Their assignment is to install and deploy the final roll-out solar array in the station’s power-augmentation program. NASA’s opening update confirmed the start of the work, not its completion.
